In today's talk, Soryu Forall conveys the importance of realizing that Buddhism is not a religion, a spiritual path, or something you decorate your personality with. Instead, Buddhism is simply a practice that helps to create mental patterns. The practice has two parts: learning how to be free and learning how to maintain discipline. Now, these parts seem utterly contradictory, don't they? Yet don't worry, freedom and discipline are intimately intertwined. The mental patterns that the discipline creates allows us to be free during joyful, normal, and even painful situations. In time, freedom and discipline become one in the same; they become one beautiful expression of our true self.
